FAQ 18

Where does the money I raise for the walk go?
The money you raise benefits the SPCA Serving Erie County's mission, programs and services.

How do I register for the walk?
You can click on any of the registration buttons, which will lead you to an online registration process. An e-mail confirmation of your registration will be sent to you as well as to the SPCA. From there, you will receive any important information and updates regarding the race by e-mail.

  • Remember: you DO NOT need to walk to participate.
  • IF YOU REGISTER ONLINE: Report to the registration table when you arrive. We can take additional donations at that time. OR you can check-in early at HSHV on Friday, May 18 from 4-7 p.m.!
  • IF YOU DO NOT REGISTER ONLINE: Bring your registration fee and any funds raised to the registration table the day of the event.

What is the entry fee for the walk?

Register, then ask friends and family and coworkers to sponsor you! The registration fee helps us afford the event, but the fundraising is really what Walk & Wag is all about. We suggest that everyone raise a minimum of $25 (more is appreciated!); these monies help sustain the work that we do for the animals all year round.

How does the fundraising process work?
Once you complete the registration process, you will see prompts to create an individual and/or team page. You can upload photos and edit text to personalize your page(s). Then you can send e-mails to your friends, family and coworkers directing them to your personal page and asking them for donations to help you reach your fundraising goals.

Nervous about fundraising? You can do it! Remember: you're not doing it for yourself; you're doing it for the animals. The animals rely on donations in order to get the care they need. Check out our fundraising tips by clicking here.

How to make donations:

  • Online
  • By mail to the SPCA shelter at 300 Harlem Road, West Seneca, NY 14224 - Attention: Phil Weiss/PITP
  • In person at the SPCA shelter (Including our early check-in on September 19th from 4-7pm)
  • At the walk when you arrive at the check-in/registration table

Will my donors receive a tax-deducible receipt for their donation?
Yes. Any donation made online to the SPCA will receive an electronic tax receipt directly in their e-mail. This is immediate. All check and cash donations will also receive a tax receipt within a week of receipt at our office in West Seneca.

Do I need a dog to participate?
Dogs are not required to participate but are encouraged. This walk fundraises for all animals we serve including dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, pocket pets, wildlife and farm. We welcome all animal enthusiasts!

Where should I park the day of the walk?
There is plenty of FREE parking next to the event area. We do encourage carpooling if possible!

What should I wear?
Dress comfortably and wear shoes you will be able to walk two miles in. We do walk rain or shine so be plan accordingly. We love seeing team shirts, especially when you match your furry best friend!

Does everyone on my team need to walk?
No, we understand that not everyone can physically walk the two-mile or the one-mile option route. Team members may cheer you on along the route or at the finish line! There are plenty of activities going that they may partake in while you are walking.

What if I would like to join a team but cannot be there physically on walk day?
We have our cat napper option availabe to those who cannot be with us on walk day. You still get all the benefits of other participants including fundraising incentives, a goodie bag, access to a fundraising page to share with family and friends, and most importantly the opportunity to help all the animals we serve...but you get to do it from the comfort of your couch at home. You will view this option during the registration process.

How can I prepare my dog for the walk?
Remember there are other dogs at the event and we ask that you be mindful of the other dogs. Please do not bring any dogs with aggressive behavior concerns or dogs in heat. Please bring appropiate leashes and collars to secure your dog (no retractable leashes). Please have doggie bags to clean up waste (we will have clean up stations on-site). We will have pools and drinking stations to keep dogs hydrated and cool during the event (have towels ready for the ride home if they take a dip in the pools or lake along the route). Most importantly, please do not bring any dogs with health issues that will prevent them from walking the two-mile route.

What is provided for the teams?
Each team member will receive a goodie bag, a boxed lunch, access to our pet-related vendors, access to event activities, and a beautiful two-mile walk.

Why should I raise funds?
Aside from the goodwill and impact your donations will have to support the SPCA Serving Erie County, individuals and teams will receive prizes based on fundraising levels.

What happens if it rains on walk day?
You get wet! The walk will take place rain or shine. In the event of severe weather, participant safety is a top concern for the SPCA. The SPCA will do all we can to make the walk as safe as possible. The walk may be delayed or canceled if the severe weather persists. Registration fees are non-refundable. Please check this website, our Facebook page or your email before the walk for any changes or cancellations.
